Youth Lab in Ancona (Italy): The Jar of dignity

As part of the Youth Labs within the Erasmus+ project WAVE IICOOSS and ANOLF organized the second Italian workshop on 30 October 2025 at the Torrette Youth Center in Ancona, an important meeting place for young people from the city’s suburbs.

The central theme of the lab was Human Dignity, explored through play, reflection, and dialogue. The workshop’s co-protagonist was table tennis, a sport highly appreciated by the participants and symbolic for its inclusive and democratic nature.

Under the guidance of two experienced youth educators, twelve participants engaged in a variety of creative and participatory activities — from playing ping pong with frying pans instead of rackets to solving coded crosswords. Each activity was designed not only to entertain and capture the young people’s attention but also to provoke deeper reflection around the guiding question: “What does dignity mean?”

The WAVE II project offered participants the opportunity to pause, think, and share their perspectives on values, mutual respect, and the understanding of others’ life experiences.

The symbolic result of the workshop was the creation of a “Dignity Jar”: each participant wrote a personal and indispensable value on a ping pong ball and placed it in a common container. The jar will remain at the Youth Center as a permanent reminder for all young visitors: everyone is important, every difference deserves recognition and acceptance, and dignity, respect, and caring are essential foundations for peaceful coexistence and friendship.
