IDC workshop on EU values in Serbia: anti-discrimination, equality and dignity in working with migrants

On May 28, 2025, the Initiative for Development and Cooperation (IDC) organized a workshop focused on EU values – anti-discrimination, equality, and human dignity – tailored for youth workers engaged with displaced and migrant communities in Serbia.

The workshop brought together six experienced youth workers from civil society organizations supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants across the country.

Participants deepened their understanding of the EU legal framework on human rights and protection mechanisms. A dynamic and open discussion followed, addressing the persistent gaps between EU values and their implementation—often hindered by political interests and weak enforcement mechanisms.

Through this exchange, participants reaffirmed the vital role of civil society in advocating for the protection of human rights, holding institutions accountable, and ensuring that the EU’s core principles are meaningfully applied in practice.

The workshop also aimed to co-develop inclusive, non-formal educational approaches that youth workers can use in their daily work with migrant populations—fostering inclusion, respect, and empowerment through education.
