Youth Lab in Jesi (Italy): Art as an expression of human dignity

The youth lab organized by ANOLF Marche ODV took place on 23 May 2025 at Palazzo Pianetti in Jesi. A total of 8 young people, including migrant minors, and 4 social educators took part in the workshops. Under the guidance of artist and educator Giacomo Giovannetti, the focus was on the European value of human dignity. The aim was to create a creative, inclusive space in which young people could express their identity, emotions and self-confidence through art, particularly through self-portraits.

The workshop comprised five phases – from the creation of personal self-portraits, a guided museum visit and artistic experiments to a joint reflection on the concept of dignity. Using materials such as watercolors, pastels and collages, the participants combined art with personal and social meanings. The project ended with a public exhibition as part of the initiatives promoted by the City of Ancona for World Refugee Day 2025, to which the local community was invited to recreate the experimental laboratory.

The lab promoted self-development, cultural understanding and inclusion. The resulting works showed how creativity can strengthen dignity and identity. A 12-minute video documenting the experience was selected for the Fausto Rossano Award for the Full Right to Health, highlighting the social and emotional impact of the project. The Youth Lab allowed people to experience how art can build bridges between people and make human dignity a shared experience.
